Considered the gateway and cornerstone of Veterinary Medicine education, “Anatomy” is a fundamental medical science that examines the shape, structure, position, and functional relationships of organs belonging to healthy domestic mammals and birds from macroscopic, comparative, and topographic perspectives.

            "To understand the unseen, one must know the seen. A good physician is someone who knows the architecture beneath the tissue they touchBased on this understanding, the education and research activities conducted in the Department of Anatomy are carried out around the following fundamental axes required by modern veterinary medicine;

  • Systematic Anatomy: Structural and functional analysis of the skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, urogenital, nervous, and sensory systems that make up the organism.
  • Comparative Anatomy: Comparison of morphological variations among Ruminant, Equine, Carnivorous, and Avian species on a phylogenetic and functional basis.
  • Topographic and Clinical Anatomy: Examination of the projections of organs in body cavities and their neighboring relationships, in a way that will serve as a basis for surgical interventions and radiological imaging (Ultrasound, CT, MRI) techniques.
  • Archaeozoology and Taxonomy: Identification of species from osteological materials obtained from excavation sites and analysis of their changes over historical processes using morphometric methods.

            The fundamental mission of our department is not to provide the student with rote knowledge, but to enable them to comprehend the biological architecture of living beings with a three-dimensional perception. We aim for our future physician candidates to act with knowledge of the anatomical boundaries and depth of the tissue they examine in their diagnostic and therapeutic practices in clinical specialties (Surgery, Obstetrics, Internal Medicine).

            The Department of Veterinary Anatomy has adopted the vision of training competent veterinarians who are bound by ethical values, questioning, researching, and possessing a high sense of professional responsibility, capable of analytical thinking, mastering the anatomy of domestic mammals, and being able to observe anatomical boundaries in clinical interventions, in accordance with the principle that "One who does not know the normal structure cannot diagnose pathology".
