Since its establishment, the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine aims to train veterinarians who possess fundamental knowledge related to microbiology, can compete internationally, identify diseases threatening animal health in our country and worldwide, keep up with current developments, and have the knowledge necessary for the diagnosis and control of these diseases.

Our Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs conducted by 2 Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, and 1 Lecturer. 

            The undergraduate program of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology includes mandatory courses such as Microbiology I, Microbiology II, Immunology, and Epidemiology, as well as multidisciplinary courses on Infectious Poultry Diseases, Bee Diseases, and Fish Diseases, which are taught theoretically and practically. 

            Our Department has 1 classroom, 1 student practice room, and laboratories for bacteriological diagnosis, mycological diagnosis, serological diagnosis, and molecular diagnosis. 

            The research areas of our Department include the routine diagnosis of pet animals, livestock, and exotic animal diseases using bacterial, serological, and molecular methods, epidemiology, zoonotic diseases, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, treatment, studies aimed at the prevention and control of diseases, and projects related to the monitoring of infectious diseases.

            The Department of Veterinary Microbiology conducts a “Master's Program” and a “Doctoral Program” in connection with the Institute of Health Sciences at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, and courses are offered within this scope.
